Kettler Sculpture is a unique entity in that I design, fabricate, and perform the finish detail and installation of my art work(s).
Using mathematics as a guiding principle, I strive to display geometric shapes and forms that are very familiar to us. It is in using that which is familiar, yet in a new form, that I give the observer the ability to see what they know, but to then look again as if it is familiar and new at the same moment. That is the magic I work to achieve , in the end production of each piece.
You will not see a face or torso or a recognizable representaion of some other existing statue or building. My work is inspired in each moment as the design in my head and the metals in my hand communicate to me what is to be created. This is the fun, the spontaneity of my work. I have no restrictions as to specific topics or areas I must commit too. Therefore I am free to build out the metals as they evolve. Once I have welded one or two pieces, I know there and then, if it is correct to proceed. If not I will cut the pieces apart, and lay them out of sight and mind. I start again.
In our physical world there are so many subjects in front of us, competing for our attention. My goal is that you, as the observer, will pause and focus on what you personally take away from the piece you witness. Something that will stick with you in your mind beyond the time of actually viewing the piece. This is one of the goals that I strive for. Get away from the internet, away from the car, and market, and office, and your house. Take a breath. To look at art allows us to reflect in the free mind. We have permsions for our thoughts to travel as they please. It is a moment that we are off the freeway of living, that we have stepped off the living treadmill, and can see that something is new or different in our periphery and senses. That shift is what I wish my art to evoke in the observer. A tall request, yes, yet you deserve to take that break from the exhausting place you have come from. My work is to enter your mnd , using the geometry that our brain leans towards in that which is the familiar. Then you look at the piece, and forms and you arrive . You accept it into your consciousness as friend, not foe
work I make using multples mediums or mediums that are new to me.
